We are delighted to welcome Helena Andersson to the Quadrant Gallery.
Helena was born in Sweden, and studied at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design, in Stockholm, graduating with an MFA in Metal Design. Migrating to Auckland in 2000, she worked with stone sculptor John Edgar and taught Jewellery Design at Hungry Creek Art and Craft School before moving to Gisborne in 2002. In the last four years, Helena has moved to full time jewellery work. Her use of materials and inspiration show a balance between creating beautiful objects, which reflect the varied world around us, while also working as lightly as possible, e.g. using offcuts of Pounamu that wouldn’t be used for carving. Her “Down to Earth” pieces showcase the beauty of New Zealand Pounamu by altering it as little as possible, allowing the stone to speak for itself, whereas the folded Origami series shows her skill in silver working.
