"The women of my mother's family raised silk moths for their cocoons and fibre. I have vivid memories of my mother's stories, finding moths and butterflies in our garden and discovering pinned collections in museums. These images have inspired a series of moth and butterfly themed works"
The moths are constructed of layered (agate) clay imprinted with patterns from vintage lace doilies. After an initial firing the moths are coloured and then fired a second time. Small bird feathers are added for antennae.
